I delivered our baby girl Layla at 32 weeks. Shortly after delivery we found out that she sustained a brain bleed during delivery. She was immediately transferred to the NICU at Lutheran General.
The journey of the NICU was an extremely emotional roller coaster; however one day when we went in on our usual visit to see our Layla we found her with an adorable lady bug head band on her head. I became so overwhelmed seeing my little girl not look so “medical”. Yes, she still had the oxygen and all the wires but it was so amazing to experience that moment to have my baby look “normal”. It may have been just a headband but something so simple left an impact on us and put a huge smile on our faces.
From that moment for the next month that our baby remained in the NICU we looked forward to “Spa Day” as the NICU staff called it where we would come in and see our little girl in a new head band and dolled up.
